Eqol-Infra

Description

The Eqol_infra database was developed based on the EQOL corpus (Stanké et al., 2019). It contains the occurrence frequencies for 14,800 spelling forms that appear in materials written for Québec’s primary school students (28 academic books, 24 literature books, 90 extracts from children’s literature). It also provides a lexical spelling acquisition scale. The statistical estimates for the orthographic and graphophonological characteristics presented in Eqol_Infra are similar to those in Manulex_Infra: frequency and consistency of grapheme-phoneme and phoneme-grapheme associations, phonological rime, word length (orthographic, phonological, graphemic, and syllabic), graphemic complexity, and orthographic neighborhood of words (Levenshtein distance). Lexical entries corresponding to proper nouns, onomatopoeia, and interjections are excluded from analysis. With the exception of the following points, the coding and analysis principles are identical to those used for Manulex_Infra (more details are provided on the Manulex_Infra webpage) :

• reintroduction of the difference between the two ‘a’s (/a/ vs. /ɑ/), a meaningful distinction in Québec French
• adaptation to the common Québec pronunciation for the contrasts /a/ vs. /ɑ/ and /o/ vs. /ɔ/
• the final schwa at the end of words is either optional or removed
